engine repair

Not so great news on the starboard engine it will have to be pulled and worked on, so currently we are waiting for the mechanic Jim to come over and get started, then we will order in parts and wait.... So Paul will be poping into Phx soon as we have a wedding to attend NO not ours-a friend; Carl's(training wheels as some of you know him) and Tonyas. Jake has Vegas in his plans real soon Our little Jakey is all grown up! on the 24th he will be 21 and decided to celebrate with his brother Brandon in Las Vegas so have lots of fun you two. We'll be sure to keep you all posted as things come up Until then happy sailing!

that's my new friend Isn't he cute??? It's a seal lion and he's huge!! Apparently he hangs in the harbor and eats all the left over bait from the tuna fishers, this was taken while riding in the dinky

toodling around the harbor in the dinky

Jake getting ready to take the "little knotty" out to go fishing, he has caught some sand sharks down at the end of the marina. Yesterday he was invited to go tuna fishing with one of the neighbors and had good luck bringing home 2 tunas so they know have a full freezer!

Incase you missed the 1st one

Just wanted everyone to see that Paul isn't the only one with a dream
The Frayed Knot in her slip at Sun Harbor Marina, Shelter Island Isn't she beautiful???

She floats

Yes as you may have guessed the Frayed knot held her own and stayed a float, unfortunately her coming out sail did not go off with out a hitch as we had hoped. The starboard engine seized on her way to the fuel dock and tow was needed to get her in. So after hunting down a mechanic at the marina Paul & Jake are spending some time getting things ready for an engine to be pulled. The boys are at Sun Harbor Marina on Shelter Island and absolutely love it! I spent last weekend over there to check it out, for all you Arizonians I needed a light sweater and sweat pants in the evening a cool 75 during the day and the high 60s at night. I know why did I come back??? This particular marina underwent a renovation recently and it just a fabulous place to be staying at. On Saturday, the boys took a break and we went to Balboa Park after the botanical garden we headed over to the auto museum absolutely incredible if you have any interest in vehicles and/or motorcycles (they have an entire section dedicated to cycles; from bicycles as they evolved into motorbikes) especially the older ones (1916,1913,1943) this is a definite spot to spend the day. On Sunday we took a trip to Mission Bay to see the sights I watched birds the boys well... let's just say they had other watching to do...I've included pictures for all to see

Now we are ready

Almost there

Up, Up and Away we go....
Sure you wanna do this????
The truck and neighbors have arrived no we are set

To the Boatyard we go

The Frayed Know arrived at Driscolls on Shelter Island today, along with Paul & Jake in tow with the fly bridge. Apparently Paul has upset a few California drivers with his needing 2 lanes for the wide load he was hauling. So much that they are willing to drive on sidewalks to get around him. The trawler will spend a few days here in the boatyard before she is placed into the water. Then she will need a week to re-adjust to sitting in the water, after having been dry-docked for the last 3 years.

Ready, Set...GOOOO no wait!

Well Jake and Paul are ready it's Wednesday and the boat is loaded and just waiting to head out-Permit???What Permit? Yes Paul you need a permit to haul that wide load through the streets of Arizona and California Off to the permit office we go...Lights you say we need LIGHTS??? Yes Paul, you do need lights on the trailer dear before you drive off into the sunset. Checker Auto here we come Can you guess...Where could all of Paul's tools be hiding? in the boat , please don't tell me you mean the boat that left at 1pm today UGH!! it's now 5:00 and the boys can drive a wide load in AZ for only 30 mins after sunset, make the CA border by then not a chance. SO how about Macayo's? Yeahh margaritas .

40' Trawler missing in North Phoenix

Have you noticed?? The Frayed Knot is no longer residing in North Phoenix, as neighbors gathered coffee in hand while others peered out windows Mike Waits along with his crew hoisted the Frayed Knot up into the air and onto the 52' boat hauler from Hales Marine, while Ed the driver worked feverishly to make it all fit on 1 vehicle. NO Luck, the fly bridge was loaded onto Mike's Dad's trailer so Paul could hook up to the GMC and make that run to San Diego. Thanks to the members of the United States Power Squadron for their much needed assistance, our Commander showed why he has the title he does-no dinghy cover is going to get the best of him. Between Bill, Terry Gray, Connie and Cat the dink was ready for transport. The main stays who dedicated 1 day a week for the past few months were there to help out also; Chuck Juno and Joe Santella made sure they got the snapshots that show the painstaking work which has gone into this project. There were some hairy moments especially when the front end lifted and the back didn't or when the wind kicked up and she was just swaying in the breeze...but after 1/2 a day on sheer intensity they did it. The Frayed Knot was loaded and ready to head out for San Diego within the next couple of days.
